Valerie Waters Valslide Sliding Discs – My New Favorite Piece of Exercise Equipment
I have recently been chatting with celebrity fitness trainer Valerie Waters about her Valslide sliding discs and I told her I wanted to buy a set so that I could try them out. Well, Val is really sweet and asked me for my address and said she’d send them the next day!
So yesterday they arrived at my front door and she surprised me a second time. I got not only a set of Valslides, I also got the Valkit for Travel with a Valband, Valslide Booties, Intro DVD & The Valslide Amazing 7 DVD. The Amazing 7 DVD & the Intro DVD were combined in one, but basically I got everything to try other than the Valband Deluxe.
The first thing I did was go through the Amazing 7 DVD, trying each of the exercises. Then I did the 20 minute workout on the Intro DVD to see how hard it was – I did the harder exercises, not the modified versions that make them easier. After that I did every single exercise listed in the booklets (the Valkit for Travel had different exercises than the regular Valslides because it also included the Valband so there were some extra exercises with the band.
Well, I did that about 30 hours ago…my back and butt are complaining. Now, those are the weakest parts of my body, but they are still sore. I didn’t think two pieces of plastic & foam and a big elastic band could give me such a good workout, but man am I amazed.
Oh yeah, and after I tweeted Valerie telling her I was beat after the workout she told me about this new exercise called the Bodysaw that she got from Mike Boyle, and it is a KILLER exercise…though I still regret adding that to my pain…
Anyways, despite the simplicity of the Valslides, they are VERY effective. I have never been so impressed with a piece of fitness equipment. They are small, very portable, don’t require a large amount of space (I’m 6′1″ and I did the entire workout in a 6″ square space) and make simple exercises give you an amazing workout.
Basically the way they work is instead of doing a regular lunge you do things like a reverse lunge and you slide your foot backwards rather than stepping backwards. It makes the exercise smoother & more effective. There’s a whole list of exercises and they are all very simple. I’ll be posting videos of me doing each of the exercises soon.
The Booties allow the Valslide to be used on hardwood floor and tile and such. The regular Valslide only works on carpet, so if you want to use it on a different surface, you’ll need the Booties which I believe cost $5.
The Valkit for Travel comes with some extra tips for staying in shape while traveling and it also comes with the Valband (and a list of exercises you can do with it), which is basically a big elastic band that provides resistence while doing really simple exercises.
In essence, I really like these things. Over the next couple of days I’ll post some videos showing what they are & each of the exercises that are shown with the books & DVDs (and the Bodysaw, which isn’t on the DVDs).
